NANCY’S THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

New Thought comic Swami Beyondananda once said: “I have good news and I have bad news. The bad news is that we have lost the key to the door behind which the secret of life is hidden. The good news is that it was never locked.” Sometimes the one thing that will change our whole day or life around – or that would move us along our spiritual path – seems to be beyond our reach, when really it’s so very simple. A Course in Miracles teaches that there are only two emotions: love and fear. Either we are living in fear or we are living in love. The way out of fear, pain, self-pity, or loneliness is to begin to see and appreciate the good in everyone and everything. You can surely see one good thing in every person such as the color of their eyes. What you appreciate – appreciates. You open the channel to receive your good when you start the flow of love going. Studies have shown that people in nursing homes heal more quickly when they have a pet or plants to care for. The act of giving, loving, and appreciating is nurturing and healing to the soul. If you’re feeling down or wallowing in self-pity, make a list of all the things you are thankful for, down to the simple things like the air you breathe, the food you eat, the home you live in, the people who seem to show up when you need them. Start a gratitude journal. By making this list you will see how truly blessed you are and it will lift your spirits and totally transform your day. Don’t wait. Be grateful for everything in your life. Then watch as your good comes rushing to you from every direction!
