HABITAT FOR HUMANITY - AKA "THE UNITY BUILDERS"

UNAC has committed to partnering with Habitat for Humanity to build a house this spring.  This single-family house is being built in Woodstock for Jeanette Robinson and her two children – Sarah, 11 and Dylan, 8.  We have already sent a financial tithe to Habitat.  Now it is time to add our talent to this tithe.

April 12th is going to be a beautiful spring Saturday when the Unity Builders, led by Bill and Anne Barbuto, will make their presence known on the build site.  We are scheduled to put hardy plank siding on the house.  No experience or tools are necessary; both will be provided.  Everyone is welcome.  However, you must be 16 or older to work on the site.  The homeowner  will be working along with us.  Those of you who joined us last fall know how much fun this experience can be while we are doing something to help someone have a better life.  There are pictures to prove it at the Habitat table!

Visit the Habitat table in March in the Holy Grounds café on Sundays to have any questions answered and to sign up to help or contact Anne & Bill Barbuto. We also will be providing the water and lunch for that April 12th, so we will need volunteers for that also.

“A hand up, Not a hand out.”

As a new outreach for UNAC, we will be helping to build affordable housing for people in need.  We will be working with Habitat for Humanity International-North Central Georgia affiliate.

These homes will be sold at a very low cost.  The families are carefully screened for their ability to support their new home.  They must put down a $1000 down payment and complete 300 hours of work for Habitat, including 50 hours on their own build.

Volunteers all over the world are working to achieve the goal of eliminating poverty housing from the face of the earth.

No special skills are required.  Habitat provides experienced crew leaders and all the tools.  On site job training will be provided.  You will sign a liability release form agreeing to take personal responsibility for any accidents or injuries on the job.

The level of commitment is up to you.  You may volunteer just once or as often as you wish.  We will let everyone know what jobs are available and when.
