Sand Mandala at Unity North:
Opening Ceremony: Nov. 27th, 1:00 P.M.

For fifteen sacred days at Unity North, the Buddhist Monks of the Drepung Loseling Monastery of Tibet will create a magnificent Tantric Buddhist sand mandala in the Unity North sanctuary.  This holy work of art in sand will symbolize all of our prayers for healing in the world.  Millions of grains of sand are painstakingly laid into place on a flat platform during the 15 days. The mandala that has been chosen represents the holiday season and is the Avalokiteshvara or the Buddha of Compassion. Our sanctuary will be open so that you may stop in to observe and meditate. Nov. 28th - Dec. 10th ....daily, noon to 7 P.M.

Closing Ceremony: Sun. Dec. 11th at 1:00 P.M. in the Sanctuary.

The Mission of
Drepung Loseling Institute

Following the legacy of Drepung Loseling Monastery, and with the patronage of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Drepung Loseling Institute has two major purposes:

To contribute to North American culture by providing knowledge of the Tibetan Buddhist arts and sciences, in terms of both theoretical and practical training, to academic students/researchers and the general public within the context of the authentic Tibetan framework; and

To help preserve the endangered Tibetan culture, which today leads a fragile existence in the exiled refugee communities in India and Nepal.
