BOARD OF TRUSTEES CANDIDATES

STEVE BENTLEY:

Steve has been involved with Unity North since 1984 when he and fiancée Cindy started attending Unity Church of Applied Christianity, which held services in Roswell. Steve soon became an involved volunteer, serving as an usher, committee chair and participant, which quickly expanded to Board of Trustee service. Having served as Treasurer, Vice President twice and President of the Board three times, his experience spans much of the current life of Unity North. Steve has a varied business background, having owned a wholesale formalwear business for 20 years before selling it in 2005. After a much-needed sabbatical, he entered the financial advice world, becoming a Register Investment Advisor specializing in qualified retirement plans. Steve’s wife, Cindy Bentley, frequently volunteers in the bookstore and has been very involved in Unity since before they met. They have two beautiful daughters: Catherine, 19, and Elizabeth, 17, which explains Steve’s hair loss. Steve has the desire to aid Unity North evolve into its greatness. Many times he has expressed how vital this community and the Unity philosophy has been to shaping who he is today. “This church was here for me when I needed it. I want to see Unity North, strong, vibrant and healthy for the next person to experience.”

CATHY SPIEGEL:

Cathy has been a member of Unity North since March of 2005 and attends service virtually every Sunday she is in town. She says Unity principles have enriched her life in a “continuing, daily, on-going process of self-reflection and spiritual growth.” As a step-mother of two teenagers, Cathy –  and her husband, Cass Brewer –  “rely heavily on the teachings of love and truth when parenting our children.” An active volunteer, Cathy is participating in the Appreciative Inquiry process and serves on the Facility Team that has evolved from that. She also is on the Decoration Team for the 2008 Auction, participated in the Backpack Carnival, which is part of the Kidsmas Team, and has adopted a landscape area at the church. She has played leadership roles at the law firm where she once worked, and sees Unity North expanding and growing in physical size and connection to our local community and beyond, through outreach projects throughout the United States and abroad.

CHARLES "DUKE" WINDSOR:

Duke is the new head of Unity North’s Chaplain Program and is studying to become a Licensed Unity Teacher. He also is on the Advisory Team of the Appreciative Inquiry process and has volunteered often at the church “when a helping hand was needed.” He has been a member of Unity North since 2006 and has been a student of spiritual principles for more than 35 years. He has “found Unity’s teachings. . . the most closely aligned with my understanding.” He adds: “Unity’s teachings have heightened my understanding.” He was ordained by the New Seminary in 1994 at Saint John’s Cathedral in New York City. He has served as a board member of the DC Soccer Association for 10 years and was vice president and president of that organization, overseeing a tripling of the membership while he was president. “My goal is to serve humankind in the Spiritual manner I am called,” he says. “I am presently on the path to becoming a Licensed Unity Teacher. I hope to retire in two years (from my current vocation) and attend seminary – this is not a formal (commitment), but is an aspiration.”
