Volunteer Opportunity at CFVC

Posted on Apr 15 , 2013 in Featured Ministries & Ministries & Outreach & Shelter Outreach

CFVC LogoLast year Unity North was blessed with an opportunity to provide lawn maintenance for the Cherokee Family Violence Center emergency shelter near downtown Canton. We would like to continue this support and ask that you consider sharing some of your time and energy to assist in meeting this goal.

Generally it takes about  two and a half hours when working alone to get/keep the yard in good shape. We supply our own equipment for each visit including, lawn mower, weed eater, edger, shrub trimmer and rake (as needed). CFVC has a mower in the shed, but it was not operational as of last fall. (You all are welcome to try to get it working if you have the time.) Generally volunteers choose a day/time that is most convenient for them to go out there during a given service week (but preferably Wed-Sat) as long as I know in advance and can notify the shelter so they know when to expect volunteers on the site. We would like to get started sooner this year and provide regular maintenance so the task is a bit more reasonable overall for everyone.

Please review the schedule linked below and signup for a service date as you feel led. To sign up please contact Angela Speeth at 678-459-7392 or apspeeth@gmail.com. Feel free to pass this information along to others who may be willing to assist. Thank you in advance for your time, energy and action.

Volunteer Opportunity

One arm of our Outreach Ministry at Unity North is creating and serving dinner once a month for The Extension. This is a very real and tangible way to make a difference in the lives of those in need.

We are currently looking for teams for November through April to serve on the third Thursday of the month for approximately 20 women. It can be a one time opportunity or an on-going one for you to put together a small group of friends and join us in our efforts. Your service and love makes a huge difference.

Please contact Kurt Heim right away at 770-928-4076 or at heim.kurt@gmail.com to help out.

Energy Healing

Posted on Jun 01 , 2010 in Energy Healing & Ministries

Energy Healing

Energy Healing Sessions Every Sunday:

1:00 pm – Peace Chapel (lower level, behind the Holy Grounds Cafe)

Energy Healers are available most Sundays for any needs you might have. Services are provided in the Peace Chapel at 1:00 pm on Sundays. If you are interested in volunteering as an Energy Healer please e-mail Sherry Farmer to get on the list to be notified about upcoming training times.

The Energy Healing Ministry holds loving thoughts for each person visiting this website to create and maintain a completely healthy, totally joyous and fulfilled life.  And we are happy to serve you in accomplishing this!  Energy healing is a wonderful experience which usually relaxes and energizes your body and soul at the same time.  We encourage all who attend Unity North Atlanta Church, members and guests alike, to “try it” and see for themselves.

Energy healing sessions are held at 1:00 pm each Sunday in the Peace Chapel (lower level, behind the Holy Grounds Cafe).  Sessions usually last about an hour ending around 2:00 pm. There is no charge for this ministry.  Any “love offering” is gratefully appreciated from those who experience an immediate benefit and are so moved to give from their heart.  All donations go to the Unity North general fund.

Participants sit in chairs in a “safe space” with soft meditation music playing and a candle symbolizing the “divine presence.”  Each session starts with a prayer and sometimes a brief talk about how “energy healing” as a continuation of the tradition begun in the late eighteen hundreds by Myrtle and Charles Fillmore, the founders of the Unity movement.  Participants silently enter or leave the space at any time.  All ages are welcome and can benefit from this experience. Many children are capable of sitting silently for long periods in this atmosphere.  No child supervision is provided.

Energy healing is a “special form of active prayer,” where a person calls forth the divine, spirit guides, angels, and ascended masters, according to their training, to assist in removing the blocks and imbalances in the energy field of another person.  This is in the tradition of Jesus, the Christ, and many others throughout the ages.  It is like getting a “jump start” when your battery is low, enabling a person to begin or continue the self-healing process.   All healing is really self-healing.

Issues at every level: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual can be addressed by energy healing.  It often serves as the catalyst for emotional releases that are needed in order to heal a mistaken belief that was formed in the past, in childhood, and buried in the subconscious.  So much of illness is emotional based. Participants sometimes see colors, hear sounds or feel warmth when in the process.  Healing facilitators are encouraged to stay in the “allowing” mode to assure that nothing is forced on the participants.

Initially, a healing facilitator will requests permission to “physically touch” the person seeking healing. After they have grounded themselves and requested divine assistance and protection, they lightly touch the person’s hands, shoulders, or feet to “tune” to the person’s vibrations.  Then they ask if there is a “special need” to be addressed such as a physical or emotional challenge, or is the participant seeking healing to maintain “well being”?  A person does not need a reason to participate, but if there is a particular issue, it is better to express it.  An analysis period may follow, usually by hands scanning a few inches from the body, and/or using the inner eye or from spirit guides.

Healing occurs when the heart center opens, and the mind chooses the healing vibration needed to alter the imbalance as the healing facilitator is guided by Spirit to move their hands above the body or sometime touching the physical body to flow the energy to the area that needs balance or release.  The method used is dependent on the type of training of the healing facilitator.  Just as there are many paths to God, there are many methods to facilitate healing. After the facilitation is finished, the “connection” is broken and the participant can choose to leave the space or continue to meditate.  If there are few people seeking healing, more than one healing facilitator may work with the participant.  Participants are encouraged to drink plenty of water after healing sessions. If an additional private session(s) is desired, request a card or method to contact the healing facilitator.

If you are interested in serving in the Energy Healing Ministry, or if you have any questions, please e-mail Sherry Farmer or Sally Moore.

On behalf of Unity North Atlanta, all those who have participated in this most joyous ministry are thanked for their service to “life” or God.  Blessings and belly laughs!

Bookstore Ministry

Posted on Jun 01 , 2010 in Bookstore & Ministries

The Unity North Bookstore is a volunteer-driven ministry whose goal is to provide materials that support the other ministries and classes taking place at UNA. Through the store, Unity North can be sure that everyone in the congregation has access to materials to further his or her spiritual journey whether it be books, music, or a variety of unique treasures.

The Unity North bookstore also provides informative material for our visitors. Through the store they can find items that will help them understand what Unity is all about.

Certainly as important as the material these seekers will find in the store are the people they will meet there!  Drop in and check us out!

The bookstore needs volunteers to help answer customer questions, process sales at the cash register and make the Sunday service CDs available after the services.  Volunteers have a consistent monthly schedule (ex. 2nd Sundays from 10:30 – 1:15 or 3rd Sundays after 2nd service) .   Please e-mail Wendy Beck or call 678-819-9100 ext. 105  for more details.

Ushers and Sanctuary Saints

Posted on Jun 01 , 2010 in Ministries & Ushers

Our awesome ushers …

…enthusiastically work together to create a safe, joyful environment where our loving community is empowered to live our principles through our thoughts, words and actions.

Our Usher Team is a huge part of the Sunday experience here at Unity North. Our values of unconditional love, acceptance, community, diversity, spirituality and service are at the very heart of each interaction and every task we perform. We love what we do, and we would love to have you join us!  Ushering is a wonderful way to receive all the benefits of sacred service for a small investment of time!  Just select one service, one Sunday per month and commit to that team.

This is a great way to express your warmth and friendliness and to meet people!  Please contact Don Carlson or Skip Elliott to join a team.  Thank you!

Every month a team of volunteers—the Sanctuary Saints—works together to make sure the seatbacks in the sanctuary are clean and stocked.  This service is so important to the overall Sunday morning experience here at Unity North Atlanta.  Every Sunday our congregants trust that they will find what they need to join in community singing, jot down notes about the lesson, and make their financial contributions.  Keeping the seats clean and organized is how the Sanctuary Saints serve each and every person that visits this church each Sunday. It only takes a commitment of an hour or two per month, so if this sounds like the perfect way for you to serve your church, please contact Diane Glynn to find out more.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Posted on Jun 01 , 2010 in Ministries & Prayer Shawl

“Shawls … made for centuries universal and embracing, symbolic of an inclusive, unconditionally loving, God. They wrap, enfold, comfort, cover, give solace, mother, hug, shelter and beautify.  Those who have received these shawls have been uplifted and affirmed, as if given wings to fly above their troubles.” ~~ Written in 1998 by Janet Bristow © 2004

Now meeting four times a month – mornings and evenings!

The Prayer Shawl Ministry group meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and the first and third Mondays of each month from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, in the New Beginnings room just outside of the Holy Grounds Cafe near the foot of the stairs. No experience necessary!

This group knits and crochets shawls infused with prayer for individuals facing challenges, needing comfort or healing, or celebrating special events in their lives.
