Class: Non-Violent Communication – Tuesdays

Posted on Apr 27 , 2013 in Classes & Classes & Events

nonviolent communicationNonviolent Communication: A Language of Life

Tuesdays, May 14 – June 11

7:00 pm – 9:00 pm in the Gathering Room of the Admin Building

Facilitator: Gale Perkins, LCSW, L.U.T. (Licensed Unity Teacher)

Most of us have been educated from birth to compete, judge, demand, diagnose, think and communicate in terms of what is “right” and “wrong” with people. Thinking and communicating this way creates misunderstanding and frustration that can lead to anger, depression and even emotional or physical violence.

In the class, based on the book, Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life by Marshall Rosenberg, Ph.D., we will learn the world-renowned four-part Nonviolent Communication process and how to transform the thinking, language and moralistic judgments that keep us from creating the loving, enriching relationships that we truly desire. We’ll learn how to resolve conflict with ease, get what we want without demands, really hear the needs of others, and strengthen our personal and professional relationships.

If you are ready to change your relationships by learning to speak and listen to others, and to ask for what you need, from a place of love rather than fear, then please join us as together we learn how to recreate our personal relationships and a world that is more loving, peaceful and joyful.

Ten SEE Credits are available upon successful completion of this course.  A $36 fee is required to register SEE credits with Unity Institute.  Pre-pregistration has closed, but you may still register at the first class.

The suggested love offering is $10 per class session.  “Nonviolent Communication can change the world. More importantly, it can change your life.”  ~ Jack Canfield, Chicken Soup for the Soul Series

We share, create community, jam, play rhythm games, have rhythm journeys with voice and movement, and learn traditional West African songs and rhythms on the djembe and dunun. If you don’t have one of these specific drums, Chuck provides loaners, rental and sale drums, and there are extra drums available at the church.

There are a few ways to be part of the drumming group.  Seven people are required to commit to drumming each month for the group to happen. A discount is given for paying at the start of the month for the whole month. For a month with four Thursdays, it’s $45 for the whole month. If there are 5 Thursdays, it’s $55. As the drop-in rate for one class is $15, this is a discount for paying up front. In addition, if you know you can only make 2 classes in a month, if you pay at the start of the month it’s only $25; for 3 classes, paid up front, it’s $35. Payment can be made by check, made payable and sent to “Kumandi Drums”, PO Box 003, Decatur GA 30031-0003. Or use ‘Send Funds’ on Paypal and the email address chuck@kumandi.com.
